Termination of employment in Slovakia – obligation of employer and employee

Question:

I kindly ask you to provide us information on what actions need to be done by the employee as well as  by employer, the employee ends his stay in the Slovak Republic (we assume that this will happen at the end of this year).

Answer:

Both, the foreigner as well as the employer, have to inform the foreign police that the employment relationship was ended:

According to the Act No. 404/2011 Coll. the employer shall be obliged to notify the police department in writing within three working days of the termination of employment of the third country national. The third country national shall be obliged to notify the police department within three working days of the fact that the purpose for which the residence permit was granted ceased to exist.

The foreigner has to return his residence permit card.

Moreover, the employer has to announce to the labour office a termination of his employment relationship in 7 working days (see here).
