Application for a Certificate of No Criminal Record

If a foreigner in Slovakia needs to request a Certificate of No Criminal record, there are two options. In this article you will learn the exact procedure, fees as well as the time of processing and what you need to have with you when applying.

At any post office

It is easiest for a foreigner to request an extract from the Criminal Record at any post office. The certificate will be prepared within 10 minutes.

There is no need to write out any form in advance. You dictate all the data directly at the window of the post office employee.

Upon application, proof of passport and birth certificate must be provided (the birth certificate must be officially translated). The birth certificate is for inspection only, the original remains with the foreigner.

Fees at the post office

  • 3,90 EUR

Personally in Bratislava at the Criminal Register

If the foreigner is in Bratislava, he or she can request a statement directly from the Criminal Register of the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Slovak Republic, at the address: Kvetná 13, Ružinov.

It is also necessary to fill in the application for an extract from the Criminal Record. Here, you can find a sample application. Instructions on how to fill it in in English can be found at this link and in German here.

As at the post office, proof of passport and birth certificate must be provided upon request (the birth certificate must be officially translated). The birth certificate is for inspection only, the original remains with the foreigner.

The certificate will be prepared within 10 minutes.

Fees at the Criminal Register

  • The fee is 4 EUR, it can be paid on the spot, you can also pay by card.

On the basis of a power of attorney

Upon requesting an extract from the Criminal Record, the foreigner may also authorize another person. For example, if you are interested in entrusting our law firm in this matter, we will draw up a power of attorney and the client’s signature must be verified with a notary.

However, when requesting an extract from the Criminal Record on the basis of a power of attorney, the foreigner’s passport must be presented (a certified copy is not sufficient).

Apostille of the Criminal Record

If the Certificate of no Criminal Record was issued in Slovakia and the foreigner needs to use it abroad, it is necessary to proceed with the higher verification – apostille or superlegalisation. It depends on the country where you submit the document.

Following higher verification, the document is translated into a foreign language by an official translator. If you are interested in an apostille of the Certificate of No Criminal Record, deliver the original to our office and we will ensure its verification and official translation. This process currently takes approximately 7 days.

Fees for the Apostille

  • Apostille 135 EUR
  • Translations 30 EUR / norm page
