Coronavirus – entry of a girlfriend (foreign national) into the territory of the Slovak Republic

Updated:

QUESTION

My girlfriend is of Czech nationality; under the current circumstances, we are returning together to Slovakia on April 1, 2020, but we do not have an arranged temporary residence. We have a vacant apartment where we could undergo home quarantine. Could you advise me on how to proceed in this situation? Although she holds a permanent residence in the Czech Republic, she cannot return there.

ANSWER:

Unfortunately, we are concerned that due to the coronavirus containment measures, your girlfriend will not be permitted entry into Slovakia these days, as she does not hold a permanent or temporary residence here, and given that she is a girlfriend, the statutory purpose of family reunification may not be met.

“As of Friday, March 13, 2020, border controls are being introduced at major border crossings, with the condition that entry into the territory of the Slovak Republic will only be permitted to persons who demonstrate an official form of residence—permanent, temporary, etc.—and a valid travel document, with the exception of Poland.” (Source: uvzsr.sk)

Therefore, prior to traveling to Slovakia, we recommend verifying the situation with the competent Slovak authorities to ensure your girlfriend will be permitted entry into the country. Naturally, under the current measures, a mandatory 14-day quarantine will apply to you.
