Marriage visas for Slovakia

QUESTION

I need to invite a fiancé from Tunisia to the Slovak Republic for the purpose of marriage to a Slovak woman. We do not want to apply for his permanent residence in Slovakia because he has his own business and work matters in Tunisia. How should I apply for a marriage visa… if such a thing exists?

ANSWER:

Slovak law does not provide for a special type of visa for a foreigner intended for concluding a marriage in the territory of the Slovak Republic. However, your fiancé may apply for a Schengen (tourist) visa at the diplomatic mission of the Slovak Republic. The submission of a visa application is preceded by the verification of an invitation by the relevant foreign police department. You, as a citizen of the Slovak Republic, can invite him, while it is necessary to state the purpose for which the foreigner is to be invited and include attachments that will prove this purpose.
