If you were born abroad, or if the marriage or death occurred abroad, the duplicate certificate is issued by the Special Registry Office. The application for the duplicate must be submitted through the registry office (matrika) where you had your last residence in Slovakia. If you do not have and never had residence in Slovakia, you may apply at any registry office in the country.

If you are requesting a duplicate of a civil registry document maintained by the Special Registry Office, do not send the fee in cash.
According to the information provided on the website of the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic, fees are to be paid as follows:
- By presenting a confirmation of payment of the administrative fee (eKolok), which can be purchased for the required amount at selected branches of Slovenská pošta (Slovak Post).
- Via the eKolok web application, also known as the Virtual Kiosk, available at https://m.ekolky.gov.sk.
- Through a payment terminal (kiosk) located at the Ministry of the Interior, Drieňová 22, Bratislava.
