Verification / Legalization of Embassy Documents
Have you received an official document (such as a criminal record check, birth certificate, or marriage certificate) from a foreign embassy in Slovakia and need to submit it to a Slovak authority?
Simply having the document issued by an embassy is often not enough. In order for such a document to be legally valid in Slovakia – for example, for the Foreigners Police, the Registry Office (Matrika), or other state authorities – it must undergo a verification (legalization) process.

What documents can be legalized?
- Criminal Record Checks: The most frequently required document for the Foreigners Police when applying for a residence permit, issued by the embassy of your home country in Slovakia.
- Other Registry and Official Documents: Birth certificates, marriage certificates, diplomas, powers of attorney, or commercial documents issued by foreign diplomatic missions.
