Permanent residence for an unlimited period – legal services

A third-country national submits the application for permanent residence for an unlimited period:

• on the official application form,

• in person, or through a family member if the foreign national is incapacitated and cannot submit the application personally,

• at the Foreign Police department or via the electronic service established for this purpose.

A third-country national is required to submit a valid travel document together with the application for permanent residence for an unlimited period. If the applicant does not present a valid travel document, the Foreign Police will not accept the application.

Other documents not older than 90 days:

• confirmation from the health insurance company of valid health insurance,

• proof of payment of the administrative fee.

If the foreign national is a child under 18 years of age of a third-country national with permanent residence for an unlimited period, or a child under 18 years of age entrusted to the personal care of a third-country national with permanent residence for an unlimited period, the following must also be attached:

• criminal record extract, if the child is over 14 years of age,

• consent of the other parent who has not been granted personal care of the child and who has the right to contact the child,

• birth certificate or decision on entrusting the child to personal care,

• medical report within 30 days from submitting the application.

The Foreign Police may also request the following from a third-country national:

• a document not older than 90 days confirming secured accommodation,

• a sworn statement confirming that the reasons for granting permanent residence (e.g. being the spouse of a Slovak citizen, a dependent child, or if it is in the interest of the Slovak Republic) still persist.

The Foreign Police department will decide on the application for permanent residence for an unlimited period within 90 days from the date the application is delivered to the department.

The Foreign Police will decide within 30 days from the delivery of the application together with all required documents if the applicant is a third-country national who represents or works for a significant foreign investor in the Slovak Republic, their spouse, or their child (single or dependent).
